sacred landscape & cosmic mandala
mount kailash is considered the most sacred mountain of the himalayas, worshiped as the cosmic centre by hindus, buddhists, jains and the tibetan bonpo. to witness, reach and circumambulate it is to receive darshan (blessing), in a journey of reflection, insight, inner transformation and renewal.
the sacred landscape of kailash is a rare transboundary space shared by china, india and nepal. we will travel through this unique and beautiful landscape, with its age-old history of religious meaning and cross-cultural coexistence. from the lush splendour of nepal’s green landscape to the mysterious and breathtakingly vast tibetan plateau, enjoying the magnificent beauty of one of most sacred spaces of the world.
this pilgrimage to the universal source will mark the starting point of the “himalayan mandala” – my greater mindwalk project which will ultimately scale the whole himalayan range in the quest to heighten collective awareness on the global relevance and deep sacred value of its cultural and natural heritage (more info will follow).
we will be guided and supported by bikesh rana of himalayan ecological trekking, a passionate trekking guide who has been travelling the himalayan spaces since very young age.

visit sacred sites of kathmandu
trek along the ancient salt trade route
fullmoon in beautiful limi high valley
starting in kathmandu, we will fly inland to simikot (2985 m asl) in humla district. from there we will trek north along the karnali river, taking the detour through the beautiful limi valley, a unique high altitude pasture landscape with rich tibetan buddhist culture, opening gradually to the opportunities and challenges of a globalized world.
as in most areas of nepal, road construction for access is under way, which will bring significant environmental, social, cultural and economic impacts to this previously remote valley. after crossing nyalu la pass (5001 m asl), we will reach the border to tibet (hilsa) on our 9th trekking day. from there we journey on road to the foot of mount kailash.
