on november 5th 2024, close to 7 years since the first concept note was being drafted, we project partners successfully completed our involvement and handed over the responsibility for a beautiful product to the bot community people of bankatta.

project design, development, coordination & management
madi-ecovillage was designed as a pilot project with the aim to develop and promote a holistic approach to tourism – self-sustainable, clean and community-based – in the terai region of nepal.
the project included the construction of homestay houses based on traditional architecture coupled with modern climate-efficient design, a clean solar energy supply, safe drinking water, a smart waste management system (reduce, reuse, recycle, upcycle) and training / awareness creation to the local partners – women’s groups who will manage the homestay business as a welcome source of additional local income.

inauguration of the buildings, and transition phase
on april 25th 2022 – coincidentally on the 7-year earthquake commemoration day – the madi eco-village community hall and cottages were officially inaugurated and handed over to the community of bankatta. looking back onto shared challenges and achievements of the past 4 years, we proudly celebrated this auspicious event, together with our partners sustainable mountain architecture, myclimate, NEFACO, the village community and the local government representatives.
a fitting inauguration event for the multipurpose community hall designed by green bamboo creation, providing welcome cool comfort in the already warm terai climate.
from mai 2022 to december 2024 we were going through a transition period, in which we supported the bote community of bankatta in implementing tourism operation in line with requirements targeting domestic and international tourists. this involved finalising interior design & furnishing; marketing (website, social media); preparing relevant information for international guests; designing a booking and operation system; establishing collaboration with nepal inside out treks & tours, an international travel agency in kathmandu and creating practical and on-the-job training opportunities for customer relation and management.
